shifter refresh kit - 2002 LATE Replacement/Performance This is a shifter refresh kit for your 2002 with the stock 4-speed or if you are running a shortened stock shift plate on your 5-speed conversion. This kit includes the often-missing support rod bushing. *NOTE the early to late update kit is only for 4-speed transmissions ** IMPORTANT NOTE if you have an early car (any '02 prior to 03/74). Your car was cursed with a less-than-ideal shifting mechanism and this refresh kit will not work as is. We highly recommend updating the shifting mechanism using the following parts: -this kit. -a lever from a later 2002 (or our "short shift lever"). -one of the "update kit" options listed above. If you are not sure if your car has already been updated, you can check very easily when under your car. The early-style shifter had a linkage that attached to the shift lever via a dowel pin and set screw.
